Spider Veins

Rigor Dermatology & Laser Center offers spider vein treatment to patients in Pasadena, CA and throughout Los Angeles, CA. Spider veins are caused by venous reflux, which occurs when blood backflows, pooling and creating swelling and weakening. Spider veins may occur due to heredity, pregnancy, changes in hormones, weight gain, or from engaging in activities that require long periods of standing.

We use two types of procedures to treat spider veins: sclerotherapy and laser therapy. In some cases, both techniques are used to achieve the best results. These treatments eliminate both small, web-like lines on the face and legs and large, twisted varicose veins, both of which are caused by poor circulation.

Sclerotherapy involves the injection of a chemical solution into an abnormal vein, collapsing the vein to be absorbed by the body. Laser treatments utilize a small, handheld laser device that administers laser energy directly to the damaged vein, destroying it.

The healing period following spider vein treatment may be as little as one week or as long as one month. During the first week, patients must walk frequently to help reroute blood through healthier veins. Compression stockings may also be required for three to six weeks, and activities such as exercise are normally restricted for a minimum of one month. While light exercise may begin after this period, Dr. Rigor will determine when you are ready to return to regular exercises such as running or weight lifting.

Dr. Rigor establishes personalized treatment plans for each patient. He will determine the best procedures and number of applications to achieve the best results.
