Skin Cancer Screening

Skin Cancer Screening

Rigor Dermatology & Laser Center offers skin cancer screenings to the residents of Pasadena, CA. We also service Los Angeles, CA. Many people enjoy the lifestyle of living in southern California, and, as a result, spend a great deal of time outdoors in the sun. Long-term exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet rays damages the DNA of your skin cells, leading to the formation of cancerous tissue. Dr. Rigor has seen an increase of skin cancer among his patients and recommends skin cancer screenings for anyone who spends a great deal of time outdoors, whether it’s for recreation or work.

How common is skin cancer?

The incidence of skin cancer has risen since the 1970s, with melanoma, the deadliest type of skin cancer, increasing fourfold. Early detection and treatment is critical to reduce risks to your health and long-term complications. Melanoma can spread to other organs in your body.

How do I know if I need a skin cancer screening from Rigor Dermatology & Laser Center?

If you notice a growth or discoloration on your skin, you may need a skin cancer screening. Signs of skin cancer include growths or areas of discoloration that last for two weeks or more, grow or change in size, change shape, bleed or itch.

What happens during the skin cancer screening with Dr. Rigor?

The residents of Pasadena and Los Angeles, CA rely on Dr. Rigor and the staff of Rigor Dermatology & Laser Center for the highest quality care. During your skin cancer screening, Dr. Rigor inspects your skin for any abnormalities. He works in small areas to ensure a thorough evaluation. If you have moles, Dr. Rigor evaluates the color and symmetry of the mole, and he may ask you if you have recently developed any new moles. If necessary, Dr. Rigor takes a sample of the growth, known as a skin biopsy, so he can determine its nature.
