Rosacea

Rigor Dermatology & Laser Center offers rosacea diagnostic and treatment services to the residents of Pasadena, CA. We also service Los Angeles, CA. Rosacea is a skin condition that typically begins with a tendency to blush easily. Over time, redness begins to spread from your nose and cheeks to your forehead and chin. You may also have redness on their ears, torsos and backs.

What are the types of rosacea that are diagnosed by Dr. Rigor?

Dr. Rigor has diagnosed several types of rosacea while working with his patients in Pasadena and Los Angeles, CA. Patients with erythematotelangiectatic rosacea experience redness, flushing and visible blood vessels. Papulopustular rosacea involves redness, swelling and acne-like breakouts. The two most severe types of rosacea are phymatous rosacea, where the patient’s skins begins to thicken and develops a bumpy texture, and ocular rosacea, which causes the eyes to become irritated and swell. Patients with ocular rosacea often develop growths that resemble sties.

What causes rosacea?

Rosacea is most common among people who are 30 to 50 years old with fair skin, blonde hair and blue eyes. Women are more susceptible to rosacea than men. Heredity plays an important role in developing rosacea. Other causes include immune system disorders, the intestinal infection H pylori and certain mites that naturally live in the skin.

Can rosacea be treated?

Dr. Rigor works with you to determine the best course of treatment based on your individual case. Treatments may include topical medications, sunscreen, emollients, laser and light treatments and antibiotics. If you have developed thick skin as a result of your rosacea, Dr. Rigor may recommend removing the skin by laser treatments, dermabrasion or electrocautery. While rosacea is not curable, the goal of your treatment plan is to control the condition and help you remain comfortable.
