How can photodynamic therapy by Dr. Rigor help me?

Many of Dr. Rigor’s patients in Pasadena and Los Angeles, CA have benefited from photodynamic therapy. Discoloration, such as rosacea, and blemishes, including acne and warts may cause you to be self-conscious about your appearance. Photodynamic therapy works to improve the texture and tone of your skin, giving you a healthier appearance.

What happens during the photodynamic therapy at Rigor Dermatology & Laser Center?

Dr. Rigor applies a liquid or cream, known as a photosensitizer, to the treatment area. In some cases, the photosensitizer is administers intravenously. The photosensitizer causes the damaged cells to become sensitive to light. Based on your treatment plan, the photosensitizer remains on the treatment area for a period of time, ranging from a few minutes to several days. During this time, the photosensitizer is absorbed by the damaged cells. Dr. Rigor uses a special laser to expose the cells to intense light, which destroys the damaged cells.

How long is the healing period after the photodynamic therapy by Dr. Rigor?

After your photodynamic therapy, there is a brief healing period. Photodynamic therapy causes your skin to be sensitive to the sun. Therefore, you must avoid direct sun for at least six weeks after your treatment.
